The firm provides a full range of notarial certification services, including consular or "apostille" legalisation of documents.
Notarial certification means:
- Checking the identity of the person signing the document in question and ensuring that he / she has legal capacity. Persons under 18 years of age, elderly people unable to manage their own affairs and people declared bankrupt are examples where capacity to make legally binding decisions is restricted.
- Where the signatory is acting on behalf of a third party, whether a private individual or some other entity such as a company or a government Ministry, ensuring that he or she has the necessary authority.
- Setting out the matters which have been checked in a notarial certificate, which is attached to the document which has been signed so that reliance can be placed on it in the overseas jurisdiction concerned. Certificates are often produced in the language of the destination country.
